The Green Homes Grant Scheme
The UK Government has recently announced its Green Homes Grant scheme, which will cover a portion of green home improvements – including the installation of renewable heating systems – to enable homeowners and landlords to upgrade their properties with energy-saving features.
From the end of September 2020, homeowners and landlords will be able to submit applications to qualify for the scheme, which will cover up to £5,000 (and up to £10,000 for low-income households) of the fees associated with reducing energy usage and improving the energy efficiency of a property. This includes a number of energy-saving improvements, with air or ground source heat pumps being listed as a primary measure included within the scheme.
Installers must hold MCS and TrustMark Accreditations
As part of an application, a quote from a Government-approved installer is required, who must hold accreditations from both MCS (Microgeneration Certification Scheme) and TrustMark as a registered business. These strict accreditation rules for tradespeople ensures that any work carried out as part of the scheme is of the highest quality, giving homeowners the confidence to progress with their work.
Abode Heat proudly hold both required certifications, placing us in a unique position in the South West to assist our clients with their applications immediately. When coupled with our already efficient heat pump solutions, the environmental and economical benefits of a partnership will be substantial.
Part of the plan for a green recovery
Chancellor of the Exchequer Rishi Sunak said of the scheme, “The Green Homes Grant is a vital part of our plan for jobs as we secure the UK’s economic recovery from coronavirus. This is going to be a green recovery with concern for our environment at its heart.” The grant scheme comes as a continuous push by the Government of environmentally-minded schemes, and joins the Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI) as financial support that Abode Heat can assist you in acquiring.
How can you apply?
The scheme will run for six months in total, between September 2020 and March 2021, with over 600,000 homeowners in England set to benefit from the payments. Applications will be accepted through gov.uk, and we ask you not to ‘register your interest’ via any unofficial online portals – being extra vigilant before this September start date.
We would advise acting quickly to receive your budgetary quote so we can be ready to complete your installation within the scheme’s timeframe.
We will be publishing further information as scheme details are confirmed in mid to late September, ready for the scheme’s launch in early October. Here are answers to some questions you might have in the meantime:
